Case study · Live broadcast graphics

BBC — real-time election & broadcast graphics platform

We designed, built, and modernized the production platform that powers the BBC’s live, data-driven television graphics for election coverage — letting journalists and graphics operators assemble and trigger on-air graphics (results, projections, swings, exit polls) in real time, in front of millions of viewers.

The challenge

Election night has zero tolerance for failure. Results change constantly and must reach the screen within milliseconds, across thousands of contests — all on an evolving, partly legacy codebase that could never go down in production.

What we built

A cloud-native, real-time platform spanning the full live-graphics chain: broadcast-standard newsroom/playout integration (MOS), an event-driven data backbone (change tracking → message broker → WebSocket delivery), and a rendering engine for AR, VR, touchscreen, and tally graphics.

The impact

A live-broadcast-critical platform trusted on election night at national scale. We modernized legacy systems with no production downtime and built a reusable foundation that now extends from elections to sports and news.
